The life foundation is a not for profit organisation based in Jeypore Orissa India. Orissa is considered one of the poorest states of India and its needs are great.
The Life Foundation runs a residential children’s home on the outskirts of Jeypore township for orphaned and underprivileged children, a tuition centre for spoken English language training and tribal women’s literacy, a health clinic using NZ Comvita honey products, runs Life communities (24 congregations serving 1000+ people, hand craft activities including tailoring and sewing, recycled paper making, hand made card and stationery making, bead jewellery making, and handloom weaving. They are a culturally diverse community with members of the team from Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Animistic faiths.
The life Centre is a 2.3 acre campus with an accommodation facility for approx. 80 children who are learning life skills. Through this home children have gone on to study nursing, engineering and into jobs with further opportunities for study.
Sunshine Nursery is an early childhood development centre designed to excite children about learning, give them the basics and channel them into main stream education. Special emphasis is placed on development through music, singing, dance, art and craft, games and interaction with nature.
Sewing and tailoring is available for paying students at morning and afternoon classes five days a week. After completion of the 6 month course students are able to measure design cut and stitch a range of Indian and western clothing.
Handmade Paper and Card Craft -in a recycled paper making and card production unit 8 girls involved in the project make a range of paper and craft items including Indian and NZ themes.
